Our
tech team will work with you to move your critical data to our data
center securely and with little or no downtime. In fact, you can usually work
with your existing data until later in the afternoon, and then start
utilizing our hosted environment the next morning.
Once your Citrix account is setup, you will have access to disk storage on our servers which reside in a "bunker" in Dallas, Texas. The advantage to this is that the servers are in a hardened, secure facility with redundant power, climate control, and internet connections.
Let's take a look at your "cloud" storage:
- When we send you our "welcome" letter, you'll be able to setup your Citrix Workspace.
- Once you've done that, start your File Explorer published application.
- Once that screen opens up, click on "Shared Q Drive (Q:)"
- You'll see three folders... the Accounting folder is exclusively used for users running Quickbooks and the QuoteWerks folder is exclusively used for users running Quotewerks. Let's use the Data folder for our example. Double-click it.
- From here, you can create as many sub-folders as you like, and store files in them.
- For our example, there is an Excel file... if you double-click on it, Excel will open on the server... Citrix will make it appear that Excel is running on your machine, but it's actually running in the "cloud"!
That's how your "cloud" storage works. One possible problem can occur if you open a local file with a Citrix application (such as Excel). Since the file is not on the same network as the application, this can result in very slow performance. Best practice is to use the application on you local machine for local files, and to use the Citrix application for "cloud" files. If you have local files that you'd like to access with your Citrix apps, you can copy them yourself from your local PC/Desktop to the Citrix Shared Drive.

Finally, while your data is automatically backed up every night, you can download local copies of your files at any time.
